Ali Hasanbeigi is the Founder and Director of Textile Sustainability Hub. Dr. Ali Hasanbeigi is a globally recognized expert and thought leader in industrial decarbonization, energy efficiency, and sustainable manufacturing. With 20 years of international experience, he provides strategic analysis and technical research to drive the transition toward a low-carbon industrial future. As the Founder, CEO, and Research Director of Global Efficiency Intelligence, LLC, he leads consulting and market research initiatives focused on industrial decarbonization, energy systems efficiency, industrial electrification, embodied carbon in products, decarbonization policies, and emerging technologies. His work has supported a wide range of stakeholders, including governments, industries, nonprofits, academia, and utilities across the U.S. and globally.
Dr. Hasanbeigi is also the Founder and Director of the Industrial Electrification Center, a leading information hub dedicated to advancing the electrification of industrial heating processes to achieve a decarbonized industrial sector.
Prior to founding Global Efficiency Intelligence, LLC, Dr. Hasanbeigi served as a Research Scientist in the Energy Analysis and Environmental Impacts Division at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, where he led the Low Emissions and Efficient Industry research group. In this role, he collaborated with public, private, and non-profit organizations worldwide to advance industrial energy efficiency and decarbonization strategies.
Dr. Hasanbeigi’s expertise spans the technical, market, and economic analysis of energy systems efficiency across key industries, including cement, iron and steel, pulp and paper, chemicals, petroleum refining, textiles, food and beverage, glass, aluminum, and high-tech manufacturing. He has conducted extensive research and consulting on cross-cutting energy systems, such as motor systems, boiler and steam systems, and process heating systems, as well as integrated energy modeling, and sectoral and technology roadmapping. His work also includes quantifying the health benefits of energy efficiency, evaluating emission control technologies, and developing energy analysis tools. Dr. Hasanbeigi has served as an international energy efficiency consultant for organizations such as the World Bank and UNIDO.
A prolific author and thought leader, Dr. Hasanbeigi has over 170 publications, including 35+ peer-reviewed journal articles, 40+ conference papers, 100 project reports, and 11 energy analysis tools, with the majority as lead author or developer. He was a contributing author to the Industry Chapter of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)’s Fifth and Sixth Assessment Reports on climate change mitigation. Dr. Hasanbeigi holds a Ph.D. in Energy Technology, as well as bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Textile Technology Engineering. He completed his postdoctoral fellowship in industrial energy efficiency and decarbonization at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.
